Location. The Sofitel Washington Lafayette Square is located in Washington, D.C., one block from the McPherson metro station Blue and Orange lines. The White House stands two blocks from the hotel.
Hotel Features. Fronted by American and French flags, this European-style hotel's entryway leads to a marble-clad lobby decorated with dark-wood furnishings and original artwork. A library located adjacent to the lobby offers plush red-velvet seating and a selection of reading materials. Dining options include ICI Urban Bistro that presents a contemporary twist on traditional French bistro cuisine. Le Bar is located at the entrance to the hotel and serves complimentary coffee and tea throughout the day and into the evening hours. The business center houses three computer stations and offers fax and photocopy services. A total of 3,300 square feet of function space accommodates events. Wireless Internet access is available in public areas for a fee. A complimentary, 24-hour fitness center houses cardiovascular and weight-training equipment. Pets are welcome at the Sofitel Lafayette Square hotel.

Expert Tip. The Octagon House is located three blocks from the hotel. This Federal-period mansion and museum, located at the corner of New York Avenue and 18th Street, was built by a friend of George Washington and is purported to be haunted. James Madison signed the Treaty of Ghent in the Octagon House's Treaty Room, which signified the end of the War of 1812.

Loved the Sofitel. They went out of their way to help us in any way we asked. Room service is quick and good. Hotel is within walking distance to all of the monuments and museums. Would stay again.

The Hotel Sofitel is a good choice if you want to be near the White House and surrounding area. The hotel is about two blocks from the White House and about a fifteen to twenty minute walk to the Washington Monument. The closest Metro station is about a block away. There are also two CVS pharmacies, two Starbucks, and several restaurants in the immediate vicinity along with a NY style deli just up the street. The hotel is in the small to medium size range with a small lobby that contains a small business center and a nice restaurant and a lounge/bar area. The hotel is in a historic building, so there is no pool, and only a small gym in the basement area. Our room was very nice with modern ammenities and comfortable king size bed. The staff was excellent. The overall atmosphere here is refined and classy, perfect for couples as it is quite, Overall this is a good choice.

This is the perfect hotel when you are going to visit DC. Location is great very close to the White House and all other attractions. the hotel is beautiful, love the room with a bath AND a shower, I mean, you can take a shower and your wife or girlfriend can take a bath in the same time. The staff very polite and super nice. This hotel is a must when you visit DC. Thanks hotels.com
