The Mavericks-Superpipe is the longest on the continent and Steamboat is known for its Champagne Powder in the trees for the most avid powder hounds. A unique area in Steamboat Springs, the Howelsen Ski Area, is the oldest ski area in continuous use in Colorado. It serves as an Olympic training site, generating world-class competition skiers and is home to five ski jumps. Golfers will enjoy two 18-hole championship golf courses, as well as a beautiful and challenging 9-hole course. There is also a picnic area. Also, for those who love to walk, bike or roller blade, there is an approximately 5-mile bike/walk path along the Yampa River and through Steamboat. Every weekend in the summer from June through August, Steamboat Springs hosts the Pro Rodeo, where professional cowboys compete. Mountain Village, at the base of the ski area, features restaurants, shops, galleries, spas, and bars. Visitors can also watch skiers and bikers come down the mountain from Mountain Village. Downtown Steamboat Springs is a true Western town. Its old town is still mostly intact with historic buildings. This quaint downtown is filled with specialty boutiques, unique shops from souvenirs to Steamboat pottery, and renowned restaurants. There are also quiet areas and parks to picnic near the Yampa River. An indoor ice skating rink is also located downtown.
