Location. Situated 150 metres from the beach, Luna Luz Bay Club Hotel is a modern hotel built in the typical whitewashed Algarve style. It nestles in the fishing village-turned-villa community of Luz, six kilometres from Lagos, 90 kilometres from Faro Airport (FAO).
Hotel Features. Opened in 2003 on the site of a former private club, Luna Luz Bay Club Hotel retains a club-like ambience, with its landscaped gardens of citrus trees and lawns, and squash and tennis courts. The two 16-metre pools and eight-metre children's pool are surrounded by sun terraces, while indoor facilities include a steam room and sauna.
In addition to a complimentary English buffet breakfast, the Luna Luz Bay Club Hotel restaurant serves a dinner buffet nightly. From April to October, a poolside bar serves snack foods such as burgers and omelettes, and the hotel bar offers live music five nights weekly.
The hotel is 200 metres from Luz Beach, a 300- metre sandy stretch that ends at a 200-metre high cliff. A switchback path winds its way up to the cliff top where climbers are rewarded with panoramic coastal views. Six kilometres east of the hotel, independent operators offer water sports in summer on Lagos Beach. There are three golf courses within 13 kilometres of the hotel, the nearest being Boavista, three kilometres away.
Guestrooms. The hotel offers 73 air- conditioned guestrooms in three villa-style buildings. Two buildings have two storeys (no lift) and one has three storeys with a lift. All rooms have furnished terraces or balconies facing the gardens and pools. Amenities include international TV channels, compact refrigerators, safes (surcharge) and bathrooms with shower/tub combinations.
Expert Tip. A hand-paved promenade extends 350 metres alongside Luz Beach. Strollers contemplating the ocean may miss a small opening in the stone wall on the promenade's land side that leads to Roman-bath ruins.
