Getting there. Trains run from Santa Maria Novella in Florence city centre to Siena almost every hour. Journey time to Siena is between 70 and 90 minutes. From Siena railway station, taxis run directly to Hotel Certosa di Maggiano. An airport bus departs for Florence's Santa Maria Novella Station every 30 minutes. Single tickets cost 6 EUR. Terravision coaches travel to central Florence. Tickets cost 12 EUR. Taxis from Florence airport direct to Hotel Certosa di Maggiano cost about 130 EUR. Prices are all subject to change. The hotel can organise airport transport for a surcharge.
Getting around. Siena's medieval centre is pedestrianised, so is best explored on foot. There is a small bus (Pollicino) run by the TRA-IN company that covers some streets located in the centre. Municipal buses run towards San Gimignano, Montalcino or Pienza. A car is useful for exploring further afield.
Driving directions. From Florence Vespucci Airport.
Take the A1 motorway (green sign, Italy's main north- south toll superhighway) at Firenze Nord towards Rome.
Exit at Firenze Certosa.
At the roundabout, take the first exit, which is the Firenze-Siena Superstrada motorway, and continue towards Siena for 65 km.
Exit at Siena Sud.
Head towards Porta Romana.
Once in Porta Romana, turn right at the traffic lights.
After 100 yards, turn right once again on the Strada di Certosa and follow signs to the hotel.
